See also the information about the drug group of agents to which the active ingredient of nifedipine belongs. Note is also the special effect of nifedipine STADA 5 mg

Areas of application of the active substance: nifedipine

Nifedipine is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, which has no organic causes (essential hypertension).

In addition, nifedipine is used for an inadequate oxygen supply to the heart muscle (coronary artery disease). It regulates the active ingredient appropriate vascular heart stress (load angina, chronic stable angina pectoris) and treated cramping States with insufficient oxygen supply to the heart muscle (Vasospastische Prinzmetal Angina, angina pectoris, variant angina).

Arterial Circulatory disturbances in the fingers (Raynaud’s disease) or the treatment of blood pressure-related emergency patients (Hypertensiver emergency) are a further area of application of nifedipine.

Following applications of nifedipine, detailed information is available:

  • High blood pressure
  • Angina pectoris
  • Arterial Circulatory Disorders

Effect of nifedipine

Nifedipine is an agents and the key ingredient of the subgroup of Dihydropyridine.

It blocks the channels in the wall of the Gefäßmuskulatur and prevents so that calcium into the muscle cells flowing in. The muscle cells relax and expand the blood vessels. This improves blood flow and blood pressure drops.

Nifedipine dilates the blood vessels that supply the heart with oxygen and thus facilitates the work of the heart. Narrow or cramped blood vessels to the heart can also be the cause of heartache. In certain forms of heart tightness (angina pectoris), nifedipine also causes an improvement of complaints.

Nifedipine is well received by the body of the gastro intestinal tract and is present in sufficient concentration in the blood so quickly. If the active substance but is metabolised in the liver passage to a high extent on the liver, the coming into effect share of nifedipine in the body is greatly humiliated. After two to four hours is only half of the original amount of drug in the blood. Therefore, nifedipine is included in many medicines in the form of delay. Retardmittel set free the active ingredient is delayed, but over a longer period. Thus, an approximately constant and sufficient concentration in the blood is ensured.

Special features of the effect of nifedipine STADA 5 mg

Nifedipine STADA 5 mg is suitable due to the low amount of drug for patients with severe circulatory disorders of the brain and for patients who expect an excessive reaction to the Nifedipingabe due to their low body weight or multiple treatment with antihypertensive means.

Also patients who respond with side effects more sensitive to Nifedipn should be set individually 5 mg with nifedipine STADA.

Interactions

The interactions of the active substance nifedipine in nifedipine STADA 5 mg are known? Please note that the interactions can be different depending on the pharmaceutical form of the drug (for example, Tablet, syringe, ointment).

A stronger antihypertensive effect occurs (diuretics) and gastric acid resistant products such as cimetidine or ranitidine with concurrent administration of other antihypertensive means (drugs), beta-blockers, nitrates, tricyclic antidepressants, drainage products.

Nitrates also increase the blood pressure lowering effect of nifedipine and can accelerate also en heartbeat.

When combined with the blood pressure lowering diltiazem, nifedipine mining is delayed in the body and can cause undesirable side effects. A close monitoring and dosage adjustment by the physician is needed here.

Beta blockers such as propranolol also lead to a greater reduction in blood pressure, sometimes even to the training of a heart muscle weakness (heart failure). Here, a careful medical supervision is required.

Concurrent administration of Herzmittels digoxin, theophylline (for asthma) or cyclosporin (against organ immunosuppression) or antibiotics from the Group of the cephalosporins (such as for example Cefixim) increase the blood levels of those substances in the blood and thus their harmful side effects.

Antiarrhythmics like Amiodarone and quinidine reduce the force of heart beat and are reinforced in their injurious effects by nifedipine.

Gastric acid-resistant agents (Antiazida) such as cimetidine or ranitidine amplify the effect of nifedipine and can lead to high blood pressure.

Rifampicin promotes the reduction of nifedipine in the body, which weakens the effect.

In a cancer treatment vincristine with nifedipine used, the excretion is reduced by vincristine, which may increase the side effects of vincristine. A dose reduction of vincristine may be required.

The duration of therapy with antiepileptic phenytoin and carbamazepine decreases the effect of nifedipine.

Simultaneous use of opioid analgesic fentanyl or other sleeping and drugs a low blood pressure occurs occasionally.

For the treatment of fungal infections itraconazole used, the effect is possibly reinforced by nifedipine.

Nifedipine should be taken with grapefruit juice. Grapefruit juice prevents the degradation of nifedipine in the body and strengthens the blood pressure lowering effect.

  • simultaneous capture of tuberculosis-Mittels rifampicin.

Nifedipine may be taken only after careful risk benefit from the doctor

  • of dialysis patients with high blood pressure and low blood volume, because there is a risk of a significant waste of blood pressure through vasodilation (vasodilation).
  • patients with liver dysfunction and vascular disorders in the brain (cerebrovascular blood circulation disorders). As the blood pressure lowering effect can be reinforced here, a dose audit by the physician and, where appropriate, a reduction in the dose is required.
  • in patients with existing cardiac insufficiency (decompensated heart failure), or if already exists a significantly low blood pressure with a Systole value under 90 mmHg. Here a particularly careful medical supervision is required.

Note: It is nifedipine in quickly workenden forms, may be the risk for complications such as such as the heart attack or general mortality increases. Caution the doctor therefore in such cases in patients must exercise with high blood pressure without recognizable organic cause (essential hypertension) or rest angina (chronic stable angina pectoris). Quickly be free (unretardierte) forms should be used only for these two diseases, if other means cannot be applied.
