Application of the active substance: Meningococcal C polysaccharide
Meningococcal C polysaccharide serves the active immunization against meningitis (meningitis) in children from the completed second month of life, young people and adults. The vaccine is obtained from the particularly dangerous and aggressive strain of the pathogen of Neisseria meningitidis C.
In-depth information is available to the following application areas of meningococcal C polysaccharide:
- Deficiencies
Mode of action of meningococcal C polysaccharide
The vaccine is made from the particularly dangerous and aggressive strain of the pathogen of meningitis, Neisseria meningitidis C, won. Meningococcal C polysaccharide is a part of the wall of the bacteria. The polysaccharide is a chain of sugar, which is recognized in the body by the immune system as foreign. The body’s defense, however, produces a corresponding antibody, a special protein (immunoglobulins) that permanently circulating in the blood. It comes after the immunization to an infection with Neisseria meningitidis, are staples of antibodies to the bacteria and “marks” them for the immune cells of the body’s defenses as targets for attack.
To achieve the purposes of active vaccination a sufficient protection against meningitis, the active ingredient in infants be required to initially twice up to one year in temporal distance of at least two months. A booster shot is recommended for adequate protection for such a basic immunisation. The right time for this is to ask the pediatrician.
Older children, adolescents and adults receive only a dose to the basic immunisation and also no booster shot is necessary.
The vaccine may not be fully protects Neisseria meningitidis of patients in serogroup C and gives no protection against diseases caused by meningococcal of serogroups other. In addition, the vaccine can prevent any strokes or blood poisoning caused by other organisms.
Warnings and precautions
- In the event of bruises or subcutaneous bleeding after vaccination, the doctor is to ask.
- The drug may be injected into blood vessels or under the skin.
Remedy ingredients sometimes trigger allergic reactions. Should perceive the signs of an allergic reaction, so you tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
What interactions shows meningococcal C polysaccharide?
It is important to note that the interactions can be different depending on the pharmaceutical form of a drug (for example, Tablet, syringe, ointment).
The active substance must be administered with other vaccines in a syringe. With concurrent administration of multiple vaccines, separate injection sites are to choose.
Infants in the basic immunisation at the same time vaccination with the active ingredient and three doses of a sixfold vaccine (against Lockjaw (tetanus), Halsbräune (diphtheria), whooping cough (pertussis), polio (poliomyelitis), hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae B (Hib)), protection against hepatitis B was inadequate. A simultaneous application of the active substance with six vaccines is therefore discouraged.
Although there are no studies on the simultaneous application of the active substance with vaccines against pneumonia (pneumococcal Konjugatimpfstoffe), but is at the same time give them the doctor in medical need.
Contra-indications
The following information about contra-indications for the purposes of meningococcal C polysaccharide in General, pregnancy & lactation, and in children. It is important to note that the contra-indications can be different depending on the pharmaceutical form of a drug (for example, Tablet, syringe, ointment).
When meningococcal C polysaccharide cannot use?
When hypersensitivity against meningitis C polysaccharide, the vaccine may not be used. For acute severe febrile illnesses, the gift of the drug must, be postponed as at any other vaccination.
In the event of a rare allergic shock after administration of the vaccine must be appropriate medical treatment and monitoring capabilities in practice available. Due to this risk, the patient must remain after vaccination for reasonable time under medical observation.
The prescribed dose in the muscle can cause bleeding in patients with lack of platelets or coagulation disorders. Only then, the vaccine with particular caution under the skin may be administered. Thus, an adverse effect, or a lower potency is not excluded.
In very immature preterm infants (birth before 28 weeks), in particular by those with a lung Unreife in prehistoric times, sometimes by the vaccination to a respiratory arrest. After vaccination it must be carefully medically monitored for 48 to 72 hours.
Note: Whether the vaccine to prevent a Gehirnhautentzündungs disease (epidemic) suitable, is not sufficiently occupied by studies. Therefore a careful risk benefit of the authorities is necessary prior to launch a widespread vaccination programme. You depends on the frequency of occurrence of Gehirnhautentzündungen by Neisseria meningitidis type C.
In people with a weakened immune system (for example, due to a history of hereditary or treatment with drugs that weaken the body’s defenses), the formation of protective antibodies against the causative agent of meningitis may be restricted or fail to materialize. Therefore, an appropriate vaccination can be achieved not in all vaccinated individuals.
Signs of meningitis such as neck pain, neck rigidity, and Photophobia are sometimes reported after vaccination. Since there is no evidence that the vaccine induces the disease should be considered in such a case an already existing strokes.
So far, there are no studies which persons over 65 years were treated with the vaccine.
What must you consider when pregnancy and breast-feeding?
The possible risk of vaccination in pregnancy is not known in humans and animal experiments are irrelevant in this respect. However, pregnant women in view of the seriousness of a meningitis must be ruled out by meningococcal C at increased risk from vaccination.
Breastfeeding a careful medical risk benefit is required prior to administration of the vaccine also.
What is taken into account in children?
Children may be vaccinated in the second month of life with the active substance.
Even younger children vaccination is necessary, due to an acute danger that must be respected: very immature preterm infants (birth before 28 weeks), in particular by those with a lung Unreife in pre-history, it may occur while by the vaccination to respiratory arrest. After the vaccination, they are carefully by doctors to monitor for 48 to 72 hours.
What side effects can meningococcal C polysaccharide have?
Below, you will learn the most important thing possible, well-known side effects of meningococcal C polysaccharide. These side effects should not occur, but can. Because everyone reacts differently to medications. Please also note that the side effects in type and frequency can vary depending on the pharmaceutical form of a drug (for example, Tablet, syringe, ointment).
Very common: local reactions at the injection site (redness, tightness, pain, swelling), body aches (for older children), headache. in infants and young children: crying, restlessness, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia. in infants: nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite.
Common side effects: fever, muscle pain. in children: loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, aches.
Very rare side effects: seizures (possibly brief fainting and likely in infants fever seizures).
Side effects of unknown frequency (after launch): Lymphdrüsenschwellung, subcutaneous bleeding (through lack of platelets), allergic shock, hypersensitivity reactions (including bronchial cramps, swelling of the face, swelling of the blood vessels), dizziness, convulsions (including fever cramps, faint, hypersensitivity and nervous abnormal sensations, and low blood pressure (in infants)), respiratory failure (in very immature preterm infants), nausea and vomiting, redness, hives, itching, joint pain, resurgence of renal impairment (nephrotic syndrome), severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and erythema multiforme).
Specialties: In presence of bruises or subcutaneous bleeding after a vaccination the doctor must be notified, to find out the cause. It both infections and non-infectious causes such as, for example, a lack of platelets are eligible.
