Mode of action of Cefixim

Cefixim is a new group of oral cephalosporins. This makes it one of the beta-Lactam antibiotics. The agent kills bacteria from (bactericidal effect) by preventing the cell wall structure of the pathogen. The disadvantage is that bacteria that have the protein Betalaktamase, can destroy cephalosporins. Thus, they become insensitive (resistant) to the antibiotic. However, Cefixim is destroyed by this protein so that it is effective even with such agents.

Warnings and precautions

• The dose of the active substance must be reduced in a renal impairment.
